This small paragraph would fix a lot of American problems! Pass it on

Put me in charge…
Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks?

You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your “home” will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good..”

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

Now, if you have the guts – PASS IT ON…

2nd calf of 2012 another heifer!

Posted in cattle, hobby farmer at 1:58 am by Administrator

Woo Hoo another heifer, Monday Feb 13th.   a dark dun, horned heifer. We have been watching the cow, “Lilly” she was looking ready so we moved her into the loafing barn in a run in pen, as the weather was going to be cold/snowy for a couple days.  Yesterday morning Lilly didn’t eat so I knew she was probably going to deliver soon, it was a cold snowy morning and strong rare winter storm wind out of the south right into this pen, so I finished the am chores and came in the house for coffee and warm up. I went back out about 1  & 1/2 later sure enough she was in labor, and not doing well she already had some placenta hanging which I assumed meant she was having trouble delivering she got up and down a couple times and sure enough the calf presented normally but  she must be big Lilly was having trouble passing the shoulders, I took hold of the calfs front feet and held on, the bag had been broken over her head and the calfs tongue was sticking out and blue, not good so Lilly strained and I pulled she was also standing up which made it easier for me to pull down, but those little critters are slippery which is why they have calf pullers, but I didn’t Dexters don’t usually have problems. Anyway one big push and pull from me and out she comes, a big long legged heifer Dun and horned.  Yes you find out a lot of info quickly on a newborn they don’t run from you for at about 24 hours so you like to find out first hefier/bull and I like to trim and dip the cord.   The calf was cold, wet  and it took her an hour to get her legs and nurse which I always make sure they do.  I went through 3 towells trying to get her warm the cold wind didn’t help and I wanted the calf dry also.  Mom got a flake of hay and later for dinner a big pan of hot mash, she loved it.   1 st thing Tuesday morning the calf was doing well dry and up & down cold dreary foggy morning tonight we will ear tag her and possibly mover her into a small pasture with shelter and Lillys daughter Lucky and her 11 day old calf “Starry” for a week then they can all go out with the rest of the herd.  Pics later

Lucky's day old heifer

Friday morning started out well I walked out to feed and found a new heifer calf, black as velvet small but active and doing well, mom is a first time heifer and is doing a good job always watching her calf.   We shall call her ” Cimarrons LU Lucky Stars”  she is a keeper.  I am letting the new kids out during the day with moms since the weather has been good 50′s light wind and sun very good for them. At night they go in the barn safe with mom.  I put up two does tonight in the maternity/nursery barn  they both are getting near and I would rather have  them in there then with the other does.  It is such fun to watch these kids run & Play.

Four new kids today

Posted in Goats, hobby farmer at 9:33 am by Administrator

What a week, I need a maid! I hate cleaning but love a clean house but not this week.  This morning brought a lovely set of twins from Lavern they were still a little wet so probably 30 minutes old.  A handsome chamoisee buckling, and a real pretty black & white doe, I may keep both.  So not much to do with these twins just snipped access cord and dipped it, dried them a little and I always give the doe and kids some Goat drench, just a taste on the tongue for the kids.  Cleaned up their pen and fresh food for Lavern.  Got to go feed cattle & chickens.  We are also waiting on Lucky a Dexter heifer she looks due any day. She is happy and content in her own little pasture smart heifer she doesn’t have to share food. Back to the goats Ethel is showing signs of labor, so into the house for coffee and let dogs out back to Ethel she had a long labor she did not deliver till 1 pm, and two nice twins, real stunning black & white buck, and a nice chamoisee doe, with a nice rear leg stance I may have to keep her.  Well more clean up and feed back to the house for a bite and computer work.  I need a hot bath! Ethels twins, 30 minutes old born Jan 27th 2012

Kidding has started! I’m tired already

Posted in Goats at 9:42 am by Administrator

Kidding has started, Hannah delivered triplets at 9am as scheduled she was due today and followed through unlike Ethel who was due last Thursday, Ethel is always uncooperative, if she doesn’t like what you are doing she sits down. Ethel has an udder but she isn’t very big.   So Hannah has triplets the 1st one was half ass backwards but one big push and she popped out, then another quickly but she had time to clean them up, of course I  was helping  then  number three all went well, she had 3 dark buckskins, 1 buck, 2 does all have blue eyes. I always get a first picture right after they are born.  They are all for sale.  Lavern &  Ethel hopefully tomorrow mid day would be nice so I can at least get my coffee.

Hannah Montana's Triplets 1 buck, 2 does.

New building going up!

Posted in hobby farmer at 3:57 am by Administrator

No kids or calves yet, Lilly Dexter cow and Ethel Nigerian goat are both due today but nothing yet, you can usually tell when they are due to deliver within 24 hours, tail ligaments get soft and sink, vulva gets soft and puffy looking and of course the udders get full and hard.  So I am not seeing any cows close to delivery.  A couple goats are getting closer.  We weaned our nice dun polled bull calf this week we are fence line weaning! suppose to make it easier since they can see each other, Charlotte momma cow is taking it worse she  bellows and she sounds like a donkey.  But he is taking it better. We pulled some tail hairs from him for DNA which with ADCA American Dexter Cattle Association all bulls have to have DNA on file for genotype to be registered as a Bull.  Next our new office is being built this is an add on to our existing shop building it is a office with living quarters. Front porch and big windows. I think it will be very nice when complete. The builder is just doing the shell/framing and we will finish the inside ourselves, someday! Eventually this will be income producing as we will use it for travelers with Livestock (horses) needing a place for the night.   I washed and hung out cloths today you would not believe how beautiful it feels like 60 degrees beautiful blue sky and light breezes, last year we had a blizzard and snow storm by now I mean it is the middle of January.    Hard to imagine who hangs out cloths anymore?  I just love it free energy and they smell so good.

Kidding time is near

Posted in Goats, hobby farmer at 9:12 am by Administrator

My favorite time Kidding and calving. Starting this week I have five does starting to kid and three cows maybe four to calve. It is such a fun, busy, exciting and tiring.  I don’t go far from home for long either.  Worked on the kidding barn today almost done, I have four pens finished, we used rubber horse stall mats for the floor and hay as bedding at one end, the other is feed & water.    I have the door open so the girls can come and go they  seem to  like it and stand there looking at the  pens like they are deciding this one is mine. Goats are very inquisitive, Ethel is first she is due the 19th, she is not huge but she didn’t get very large last year and had a nice set of twin bucks.  Ethel had trouble keeping weight on last year also so I will be upping her feed in advance.  The weather was beautiful today more like a March day than January.  I just saw a big flock of geese flying North, boy are they confused it’s Oklahoma next week it could snow.

This one is mine!

Selling Eggs

Posted in hobby farmer at 9:45 am by Administrator

Only Brown Eggs will Do!

The weather has just been beautiful some days just a sweatshirt is enough, we are due for some rain and we have a chance this week so I hope for a rainy day.  Busy weekend we ran to town twice once with the trailer for feed, once back for dinner. Saturday I also did some trimming of hooves and one more doe needed her CDT she is the last one due, Ethel is due around Jan 19th, I noticed today at least 4 of the girls udders are starting to shape up a little, it is such a exciting time like Christmas getting packages and never knowing what is in them.  Can’t wait! Hope the weather holds. Last Winter we had a blizzard and a snow storm to deal with. So quiet is nice. Kids do well as long as they are out of the weather and have mom and dry hay to snuggle in. In Oklahoma we have 3 sided barns our summers are too hot and long for a closed barn.

Sunday we ran in for breakfast and a couple errands then came home and had a few friends stop by to visit and see the Dexter’s.  I ended up selling 14 dozen eggs Sunday between customers and friends. Good thing the girls are laying. Monday cold start a little ice on the water tanks, I spent a couple hours working in the orchard and noticed a couple red delicious trees had some borer holes so we will to look closer see if I can pull the worm out. YUK! what I do for a tree.

New Goat Barn

Posted in Goats, hobby farmer at 8:51 am by Administrator

We are in the process of finishing a new goat barn actually the nursery it is 3 sided, which works better in Oklahoma due to our hot summers. It faces east, it is about 30 x 30 has aisle 4 pens each 4 x 7 rubber horse mats and bonus pen large enough to let all the kids play inside and the end is big enough to store hay/feed and park the gator. Here is a pic of the inside.

Welcome 2012

Posted in Goats, hobby farmer at 8:36 am by Administrator

So what do farmers do for New Years same thing they do every day  and usually go to bed early!  My holidays? work, clean, cook, and work some more. Even Christmas morning same routine feed cattle, goats, chickens. We got so much accomplished all pasture fencing is finished the 8 strand barb wire fencing we finished on Christmas Eve day.  We are now moving our cattle chutes and pens, to a much larger area that would let us utilize two pastures and make loading/unloading and working cattle much easier that should be completed this week.  We also have the new goat barn or nursery almost finished we have 4 pens up 4 ft by 7 ft. We used rubber mats for horse stalls inside each stall.  It looks nice and will give us a barn just for kidding, which I have a doe (Ethel) who is due in about 2-3 weeks.  Then 4 more does after her. Here is a picture of the new goat barn.

Weather

Posted in cattle, Goats, hobby farmer at 9:13 am by Administrator

What  a gorgeous day and week of weather we are having! 50′s & 60′s.  Today was my worst job cleaning out chicken coop one of them, it houses my Cochins.  I also treated each one for leg mites yucky! Then treated goats with some powder for lice/mites just in case winter is bad for lice on goats & Cattle because they have long hair thicker coats.  We also treated our bull with pour on wormer. I still have to trim feet on the goats and groom my 4 dogs. Working on the new goat barn which is basically a nursery.  I have to run to Atwoods this week and pick up some items and 4 rubber mats for the nursery floor.   I am also working with the guinea chicks 18 of them 4-5 months old they have been raised in a barn literally and now they are ready to fly the coop! I am so funny. So every morning I let them out, the adult guineas and their parents have to tell them off and chase them every day, then every night herd them back in hopefully next week they can be free not sure what we will do with 26 guineas roaming around and making constant noise,  in case you don’t know guineas are the dumbest animal on the planet really!
